A gaiwan is the plainest tool in tea - a bowl, a lid, a saucer - and the most honest. Nothing hides the leaf.
The glaze is thin at the rim and gathers at the foot, so the color changes as you turn it in your hand.

Care
Hand wash with warm water and a soft cloth. Let it come to room temperature before pouring anything hot, and never move it straight from the fridge to boiling water. The crackle will slowly take on the color of the tea you drink; that is the glaze settling, not wear.
